This arts shop and gallery has been around for a long time, before the modification of Nan Jing Road into a pedestrian street. This year, its interior has been renovated, causing it to lose a bit of its former dusty charm. Nevertheless, the five stories still offer a lot to see and buy. You will find arts & crafts and equipment for calligraphy and Chinese traditional painting, a good art bookstore, an independent gallery called SMM Gallery, the Duo Yun Xuan gallery of popular traditional and modern scroll paintings, and Duo Yun Xuan Auction house.

The museum is more to be seen for its 1930s monumental interior architecture than for its art. The artworks in the 12 exhibit halls are certainly worthy of note, ranging from modern traditional oils to recent pop canvases, but they are overwhelmed by the fastidiously restored wood and marble interiors of this 1933 five-story neoclassical landmark. The clock tower, erected in 1933, marks the location of the original grandstand of 1863. After 1949, the building was used as the Shanghai Museum and the Shanghai Library. Today, in addition to the artwork, there is a classy American restaurant, Kathleen's 5, on the fifth floor

As a lot of version of New Xiang Yang Market, the most familiar one is under the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. There are three obvious features about this market. First, there are millionaires of shops for cloths. Second, they usually offer you high price, but finally people can get a low price deal. Third, load of fake good. It is said that a rule must be obeyed here that you should never pay more than 1/3 the price of they offer. For example, if the asked 600RMB, you may only need to pay 200RMB at most.

Jade Buddha Temple

The temple draws from both the Pure Land and Chan traditions of Mahayana Buddhism. It was founded in 1882 with two jade Buddha statues imported to Shanghai from Burma by sea. These were a sitting Buddha (1.95 meters tall, 3 tons ), and a smaller reclining Buddha representing Buddha's death. The temple now also contains a much larger reclining Buddha made of marble, donated from Singapore, and visitors may mistake this larger sculpture for the original, smaller piece. There is a visitor services office adjacent to the southern entrance, and a Buddhist library is also on the premises.
